Ground Instructor Certificates

Introduction

Issuance of an FAA Ground Instructor certificate is pretty simple. You'll need to take the appropriate written test, whether thats the Basic, Advanced or Instrument, plus the Fundamentals of Instruction knowledge test if you haven't already obtained your CFI certificate.

Pricing

Please visit our Price List for current pricing information.

Required Documents

Please bring your Passport, or a US Driver's license.  Foreign driver's licenses are not acceptable.

Bring your original pilot certificate, CFI certificate if you have one, and your medical certificate.

Please bring your knowledge test results for the BGI, the AGI, or the IGI.  You'll also need the FOI, unless you already hold a ground or flight instructor certificate.

If you meet one of the exceptions to taking the FOI, such as being a teacher at a university, please bring your documentation to that effect.

Please have your IACRA login credentials readily accessible.

Application Procedure

You'll need to prepare an application in IACRA.  You do not need to have another instructor sign the recommendation.

Please bring all of the documents listed above.

Your flight hours in IACRA are allowed to be left blank, but I strongly suggest that you keep these totals up to date since it serves as a backup record of your flight time.  If you have your total hours on your application, please bring your logbook so I can validate your totals.

We are required to meet in person. The FAA does not currently permit the issuance of a ground instructor certificate via videoconference.
